Subject: squat news-Lisbon/Portugal

After the resistance hold by the São Mamede street squatters, the Santa
Casa Da Misericórdia (institute with lots of power that helps the homeless
and detains national lottary) who reclaims the 4 floor building, is
freightening fathers from residents of the squat. They show to the
squatters' parents photos and films from their daily life, explaining that
they don´t have any chance in court.

Is the first time in Lisbon and Portugal that a judicial case
is made. So people (squatters) are a little bit apreensive with
that. After the 1974 revolution about 10000 houses have been
squatted... years passed and the new neo-liberal and anti-revolutionary
legislation permitted the legalization of houses that have been
squatted in the revolutionary process. Even tough, today, the neo-liberal
laws and policys no longer permits squatting.

There are 5 squats in lisbon. They form a new movement that started 3 and
a half year ago with the occupation of Kasa Enkantada.
