hallo all
just a brief question .
we squat in buildings owned by south sydney council in Australia.
we have been defying the council's requests to have us leave and are
now trying to convince them to agree to let us stay there until the
buildings are set to be demolished.
we have some support on council to do this, but they desperately want
to know whether other councils have done this kind of thing in the
past.
negotiations will be taking place over the next couple of weeks.
so my question is : does anyone know of any councils that have either a
policy of letting squatters stay in council-owned properties that OR
any examples where this kind of thing has happened in the past.
and : how can we get some details/info/in contact with the people
involved.
in sydney, squatting has been a criminal offence for the last thirty
years. as a result, most squats have been crushed before any kind of
formal agreements are arrived at.
the squat scene in sydney is small but keen. check out shac's website [
squat.net/shac] and tell us what you think.
