Urgent::KLM - uw Uitzettingsagent
hello.
we are activists from the group "Caravan for the Rights of Refugees and
Migrants" in Munich, a refugees' association currently fighting deportations. To
date, there are especially many togolese nationals being deported by the
german state, with collaboration of KLM Royal Dutch Airways.
This weekend, we are facing an especially urgent case. Mr Eledjanawe Looky
will be deported tomorrow from Munich to Lomé(Togo) via Amsterdam and
Accra(Ghana). Obviously he has no intention to be deported, but then you folks also
know how the european states treat political refugees from the so-called Third
World. We believe that he is under threat of being detained, tortured and
even killed upon arrival to Togo.
We will try our best to not let the deportation begin in the first place.
However, in case this attempt should fail, we are seeking your help and
support. If you could also put pressure on KLM via fax or phone messages, especially
as we know that there is a lot of resistance against deportations by KLM in
the Netherlands. From what we have learned, there was a KLM statement about
not transporting refugees against their will anymore, but we don't know if
they comply. Hence, we believe that it is best to put pressure on the KLM flight
security service (tel ++31 2064 91560 fax ++31 2064 88237 or ++31 2064
88062) and the flight crew. Find our crew-briefing attached.
We know this is asking a lot with such short notice, but we only recently
learnt about it ourselves and had little time to get prepared. Through such
actions, but also through personal presence at the airport and in the plane, we
were able to stop some deportations already (www.deportation-class.com). But
we are not sure about how effective these strategies are in Amsterdam. Well,
you probably know anyway.
If anybody should manage to talk to somebody responsible, we have a few
important facts which might be useful (very much apart from the fact that we
can't stand deportations, borders and all that stuff anyway).
- he was just about to achieve french nationality through marriage.
- his deportation is in defiance of even german law.
- because of his political activities, he is likely to be maltreated in
Togo. The Togolese dictator even stated he would persecute exiles from Germany
especially bad.
- his whole family depends on his incomes, hence a stay of his in prison
would endanger the existence of his whole family

Deportation of Mr Eledjanawe Looky
20th of April 2003
Ladies and Gentleman!
Today, Sunday the 20th of April, the Togolese refugee Mr Eledjanawe Looky is
scheduled to be deported from Munich to Lomé via Amsterdam and Accra(Ghana).
Mr Eledjanawe Looky is being deported against his will. He has neither wish
nor intention to return to Togo, since as a political activist who was forced
to flee his country, he is in great and imminent danger to be detained,
tortured and even killed for his political views.
We seek to remind you that KLM Royal Dutch Airways declared that they will
no longer participate in involuntary deportations and that in case a deportee
voices his objection to him being deported, KLM will refuse to transport him.
Since Mr Eledjanawe Looky is not willing to be deported, we urge you to
comply with KLM’s policy and refuse his boarding.
Mr Eledjanawe Looky already announced his resistance in case of being
deported. He will refuse to board the plane and protest loudly. From experience, we
fear that physical coercion will be used against him, and that he might
become injured in the process. We urge KLM to neither participate nor tolerate
these acts against the human rights universally declared.
We further want to make you aware of the fact that the German Pilots’ Union
“Cockpit” appealed to its members not to transport refugees against their
will, under humanitarian aspects as well as aspects of general flight security.
The Belgian Pilots’ Union “Beca” issued a similar declaration to its members.
Please don’t participate in a forced, involuntary deportation.
Yours sincerely,
----------------further steps---
ok, we know this is all pretty much improvised, and we would also like to
get more routine into this business. In case some of you are interested in more
cooperation, you might want to contact us, so we can talk about stuff.
To all of you who read this long posting, to all of you who didn't get
pissed off with us sending this so late.....thanks a lot for your attention, and
let's hope we stop that deportation. A last word. If everything goes well here
in Munich, we'll post a message on this list again and immediately....but
perhaps some of you feel inspired to bug KLM nevertheless...they better stop
deportations at all.
